Printmaking

I haven't posted anything in a while, to my dismay. I know I said I was going to try to post at least once a week but with final and the holiday season going on at the same time I just couldn't find the time. But I have time now! I've got one more week before school starts back up again, so I have some preliminary drawings and some commission work to get done. Always busy.

Last semester, the semester I just finished, I took a new type of class, Printmaking. It is so much fun and I loved the focus on drawing. Instead of focusing on color and value like I have to in painting, my entire focus relied on line, just like it does in my inked drawings. Here are a few of the pieces I completed for the class. I'm taking Printmaking II next semester (my FINAL semester) so there will be even better pieces coming.

"Raven Princess"
Intaglio Print. 7"X9" Rachel N. Ward
"Hades and Persephone" (Yin and Yang)
Relief Print 8"X7" Rachel N. Ward

"Dream"
Intaglio Print 4"X8" Rachel N. Ward

"Momentum 1"
Relief Print 6"X11.5" Rachel N. Ward
If you ever have the chance to take a printmaking class or just want to try it out on your own I strongly suggest you go for it. You will love especially if you have a love for drawing and design.

More inked fan art

So while I try to actually take a good photo of my new painting, here's some fan art I've created. Hopefully by next week I'll have a good enough picture to put on my blog. Taking pictures of large paintings is harder than you would think, especially when there is so much dark paint.

Perception

Perception, 2012. Oil on canvas 3' X4' Rachel Ward

This painting was created for painting III at Florida Southern College. We had to come up with a concept for reality then find a way to paint it. My version of this concept was how perception on an event, either negative or positive, can shape the reality you life in. My good friend at school posed for the painting, which I took two separate photos of then merged the two photos together. Its my most successful oil painting so far, though the one I'm working on now will surpass it. I'll be posting that painting hopefully next week.

Brand New me

I'm ready to take art seriously now. With only one more semester of college left, I need to get serious about getting my work out there and start making a name for myself. Here's some work from a few months ago. I have a few paintings, prints and sculptures I'll post on the blog next week. Lord willing, I'll update my blog at least once a week.
